Theories of mechanics underlie the design strategy of complex materials. We are interested in integrating these theories with X-ray crystallography and symmetry for understanding, modeling, characterizing and eventually tailoring the deformation and microstructure of phase-transforming materials. Ultimately, we aim at the optimal design of new functional materials with exceptional functionalities.
